The Civil War: A Film By Ken Burns, Ep. 1 "The Cause, 1861"
Consumer Evaluations
Even if you turned down the sound and just watched the photos for 10 hours, this would still be the best documentary ever made about the Civil War. The photographs that Ken Burns has identified and the way he makes use of them tell the stories in approaches never carried out before. Add to that excellent narration, remarkable voice acting (such as Sam Waterston, Morgan Freeman, Jason Robards, and quite a few far more), engaging historians, and a best soundtrack and this series is a must see. This is Ken Burns at his ideal. It is not best, and there are a handful of inaccuracies, but the power and emotion that is drawn out via this series is anything every person should really encounter.
This is a good series for everybody from high school students to adults that feel they know history. My English husband is fascinated with American history and has learned quite a lot about our country thanks to Ken Burns. This is 1 of our favorites.
